Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair

This week at the Art Center, Miss Sanders had placed some strips of paper along with many other interesting items. Children can go and create whatever they wish in this area. There is no predetermined craft. Students can create bravely and let their imagination guide them.

This week, one child glued the strips together and made Rapunzel’s long hair. I noticed others also making hair. One child brought over their strip and said, “See how long it is?” ¬†This led to an inquiry into measurement. How could we measure it? What math words could we use to describe it?

We are now comparing items and using terms such as bigger than, smaller than. We are using words such as longer and shorter. We also began exploring measurement with links.
