Kindergarten Looking Closely authors

On Friday our class Skyped with Mrs. Schmidt’s kindergarten class. Her class is situated in Woodbridge and is also engaged in the Global Collaborative Looking Closely project. One of her students wrote her own Looking Closely book and posted it on their class blog.

The young author read her book to us via Skype and our students asked her questions. “How did you make your book?” “How did you know what to write?” And “how much can you write?”

Our students were enthralled at the detail and length in the child’s writing and it inspired them to begin writing their own extended books later in the day. I am hoping our students will revise, extend and share their writing with the class.

Skype provides an authentic experience for students to connect and share their work. The Skype call provides an audience for their work and it provides feedback for students. It also lets them know others are learning about similar things too.
